Shillong: The State Government is yet to clear the amount of shares under various heads, received by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) from the government during the year 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-2012.
This was informed by Executive Member in charge of Finance, Antonio War, while replying to a query by KHADC member EB Syiemlieh during the question and answer proceedings on the first day of the summer session of the KHADC here on Tuesday.
“The matter is being pursued with the government and the Council had sent a memorandum for the same in 2009. The Council also met the then Chief Minister seeking clarification on the clearance of shares,” War informed.
He also stated that in 2010, the former Chief Executive Member of the KHADC had written to the CM to follow-up the issue and in 2012, present CEM PN Syiem had written to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma calling for further discussion on the issue.
Reacting to a query on the amount of shares left to be released, War said there is no clarity on the release of the share stating that there are years when the total amount is more than the budgetary provision while there are times when it is less.
Meanwhile, KHADC member TS Thangkhiew urged the executive committee of the KHADC to take the matter seriously in order to tide over the Council’s financial woes.
The members also expressed disappointment over the inability of the State Government to clarify on the release of shares to the three District Councils while asking the EC to seek an RTI from the State Government if things continue in the same manner. Reacting to this, CEM PN Syiem said “We are doing everything to get the remaining shares.”
