Sit-in protests across State

SHILLONG: The three-day sit-in-demonstration to drive the attention of the Centre on the need to resolve the long pending inter-State boundary dispute between Meghalaya and Assam kicked-off simultaneously in various parts of the State on Wednesday.

The demonstration, slated for June 20, 21 and 22, were held from 3 pm to 6 pm.

In Shillong, the sit-in-demonstration was observed at Madan Iewrynghep, Mawlai, Pynthorumkhrah, Jaiaw and other areas.

UDP legislator from Nongkrem Ardent M Basiawmoit, who is spearheading the protests, led the sit-in-demonstration at Smit.

In West Khasi Hills, demonstrations were held at Rambrai and Mawkyrwat.

In Ri-Bhoi, the sit-in-demonstration was held at Mawlasnai, Umsning and Nongpoh.

A sit-in protest was also held in Jowai. NGOs leaders of AJYWO, JYF, JSU and FLKJGP-JH along with headmen from Block I area held the sit-in protest at the MTC Stand at Iawmusiang Jowai.
