SHILLONG: Director General of Border Security Force (BSF), UK Bansal, on Friday reviewed the status of border fencing, floodlights and border roads along the Meghalaya stretch of the Indo-Bangladesh international border.

Talking to media persons here in the city on Friday, Bansal informed that some areas of the border were yet to be fenced due to problems of land acquisition and the difficult terrain.

Out of 443 km of border in the Meghalaya sector, 215.196 km of fencing has been erected while work for fencing of the remaining stretch of 119.324 km is under progress.

The BSF has also urged the State Government to expedite the clearance of land for the remaining stretch for early commencement of the fencing work.

It may be mentioned that Meghalaya NGOs are opposing the Centre’s decision for border fencing from the Zero Line along the international border.
