Cong district organiser alleges police excesses

 TURA: The District Organiser, District Congress Committee, East Garo Hills, Arun Marak has alleged that officer in charge, Selsella Police Outpost, B Shadap along with his staff assaulted the former and his family on Tuesday last.

Marak also submitted a complaint to West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Praveen Bakshi regarding the same. Marak alleged that the police team stopped their vehicle near the Selsella ICDS Office when they were on the way to A’bima, Rajabala.

“The cops on knowing that we were from Williamnagar, started insulting us

stating that all the people from the area (Williamnagar) are criminals and militants”, Marak said adding that his cousin countered the cop’s remark at which the policemen dragged him out of the car.

“Then the police team started assaulting me and two of them even hit me with the butt of their service guns” Marak added.

It was also alleged that, Marak and his family were later taken to the Selsella Police Outpost where the officer-in-charge was in an intoxicated state and he too started to randomly abuse Marak both physically and verbally even as the latter was detained for over an hour.
