SHILLONG: MLP FT eased past a hapless Lawmali Pyllun SC 6-0 thanks to a brace each from Niwan-O-Gatpoh and Marshall Kurkalang in a completely one-sided affair in a Shillong Premier League match at the JN Stadium, Polo on Monday.

The score however could have easily touched the double-digit mark had it not been for many spurned opportunities.

MLP went on an all out attack right from the word go and it took them just two minutes to open the scoring. Sleek passing broke through the Lawmali defense and Niwan provided a fine finish to register his and his team’s first goal.

The MLP attack again tasted success in the 13th minute when Marshall lobbed the ball over the rival keeper’s head following a fine through ball.

Lawmali made an effort to get back into the game but failed to convert the rare chances that came their way and the score remained 2-0 at halftime.

Upon resumption, MLP maintained a high standard of play with good support and link up as they pressed forward to increase the margin.

Spectators did not have to wait long as Plassing Myrthong made it 3-0 in the 52nd minute following a fine header off a corner kick.

The contest was effectively ended in the next minute however as a stunned Lawmali could only watch as MLP won the ball outside the box and a rocket from Marshall (53rd minute) into the top corner made it 4-0 in MLP’s favour.

Two more goals in the space of two minutes ended any resistance that Lawmali could provide towards the end of the match.

Shanverius Mawlong joined the party for MLP with the fifth goal after some brilliant hard work to win the ball from a Lawmali defender and then slotting the ball home past the keeper.

It was Gatphoh again who provided a sublime finish with a goal that came his way when the Lawmali goalkeeper failed to clear the ball properly and MLP players got the ball possession.

The match was a stroll in the park for MLP and will no doubt give them the much needed confidence ahead of their next outing against a stronger opponent – Malki SC.
