JOWAI: The check dam constructed at Takhniang in Tuberkmaishnong village in Jaintia Hills was inaugurated by SF Lyngdoh, Project Manager, Meghalaya Rural Development Society (MRDS) on Tuesday.
The check dam would provide a steady source of water to the villagers and would also help in conservation of water.
The dam was constructed at a cost of Rs 2.70 lakh out of which Rs 2 lakh was funded by the MRDS-Lifcom while the remaining amount was donated by the villagers.
Lyngdoh also inaugurated the ‘land bank’ purchased for land less people of the village. The land bank would be used for farming by land less people of Tuberkmai shnong village.
The land bank, measuring over 140, 252 square meters, was purchased at a place called Sniriang at a cost of Rs 6.30 lakh out of which Rs 5 lakh was funded by the MRDS-Lifcom while the remaining amount came from donation by villagers.
Speaking at the inaugural function chaired by Rangbah Shnong Embi Sana, Lyngdoh informed that the main objective of the check dam is to help the villager in conserving water. Other who spoke on the occasion included VDP secretary W Siangshai. VEC secretary A Phawa offered the vote of thanks.
