Free orthopaedic surgeries for poor

 SHILLONG: To commemorate the first Indian Bone & Joint Day the North East Region Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Association and the Orthopaedic Society, Shillong will jointly conduct orthopaedic surgeries for poor patients in the month of July. This decision was taken as per resolution of the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA).

As part of the observance, a poster competition is also organised for students from Class IX to XII. The topic for senior level students (Class -XI-XII) is “First Aid in Trauma/Injury”. The first three position holders of the competion will be awarded with Rs. 2000, 1500 and 1000 respectively.

The topic of poster competition for junior level students (class IX and X) is “Nutrition and Bone Health” with a prize reward of Rs 1500, 1000 and 750. A consolation prize of Rs. 500 will also be given in junior level.

The last date for submission of poster is 26th July 2012. The poster may be sent/ deposited to Dr. Bhaskar Borgohain, OPD Block Room No. 4, NEIGRIHMS, Mawdiangdiang, Shillong or to Dr. V. Myrboh at Orthopaedic Block, DDRC Civil Hospital Shillong.

There will be a public lecture, panel discussion on orthopaedic problem on August 4. A free Osteoporosis and Ricket detection camp will be organized on the same day.
