This rally would be held to support the cause of Pynskhemlang Nongshlong and others at Langpih.

The rally would take place at Rambrai on saturday from 9:30 am onwards. The rally would begin from St John’s School and terminate at Lad Mawrang with a public meeting.

Monday’s rally would be held at Nongstoin. It would begin at 11:30 am from Nondain Bridge and terminate at the Officers’ Club at Lad Weitang. A public meeting would be organised at the basketball court there too. After the meeting the NGOs would meet the Deputy Commissioner West Khasi Hills, S Kharlyngdoh and submit a memorandum.

Meanwhile, extended their joint support to the Langpih cause, the NGOs condemned the Government’s silence over the issue that had crossed the six-day mark with seven of the agitators being hospitalised.

The NGOs have cautioned anyone from politicising the Langpih issue. They also warned the locals to refrain from taking advantage of the whole issue for some personal benefits.

The rally would be a non- violent one along the lines of the fast unto death at Langpih, they said, while appealing to the people in these two towns to join the rally to support this noble cause.

Teachers to hold hunger strike

To express their solidarity with the agitators who are on a fast-unto-death in Langpih, two members of the Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association (MUPSTA) would be holding a 30-hour hunger strike at the State Central Library Main Gate from 9 am of July 9 till 5 pm of July 10.

The two teachers – Kenneth Shadap and Overland Lyngdoh – would be holding the hunger strike under the Peace and Justice Movement.

West Khasi Hills night road blockade begins

The two-night blockade called by the Western People Movement (WPM) began on Friday. WPM president Johny Syiemlieh, informed that they have received unflinching support from the people with regards to the blockade call.

The road blockade came into effect at around 7.30 pm. Roads were deserted all over West Khasi Hills and reports of tyre burning across Nongstoin town were pouring in.
