SHILLONG: The State Government has finalised the land at Umran Dairy behind RRTC in Ri Bhoi district for setting up of the headquarters of the 6th Battalion of the Meghalaya Police.

The total land available at the proposed site is around 200 acres, official sources informed on Tuesday.

Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Akash Deep informed that he had submitted the estimates for acquisition of the land about a month back.

“I had prepared the estimates after the completion of the survey and mapping of the land,” the DC informed.

At present, personnel of the Sixth Battalion are being housed at the MLP 1st Battalion headquarters at Mawlai Mawiong.

Earlier, the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation had placed a demand that the headquarters be established at Ri Bhoi since other districts in the State already had battalion headquarters.
