Guwahati: The first super specialty hospital in the entire North East region would be set up in Guwahati soon, with the state government and Bangalore’s Narayana Hrudayalaya signing an MoU here on Wednesday.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) paved the way for setting up this super-specialty hospital under public-private partnership (PPP) mode after nearly two years of planning and negotiations.

The pact was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Narayana Hrudayalaya chairman Dr Debi Prasad Shetty.

The hospital will be housed at the current civil hospital campusat Amingaon on the outskirts of Guwahati.

It will be a 300-bed one and will have to offer treatment at government rates on 50 per cent of the beds.

As many as 32 super specialists (doctors) would be available in the hospital, which will offer super-specialty services in the departments of cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery and dialysis unit.

Besides allowing free usage of its buildings and land for a stipulated period, the state government will invest money in the hospital. (UNI)
