TURA: The Achik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO) and the Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP) of Tikrikilla on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills demanding immediate appointment of a regular Medical and Health Officer at Tikrikilla Primary Health Centre (PHC).

The NGOs informed that the Tikrikilla Primary Health Centre has been running without a doctor for the past two months.

Tikrikilla, being a flood-prone area, epidemics break out every year after flood.

It is alleged that people of this area die without proper medical care.

Stating that Tikrikilla PHC covers almost 20 kilometers in radius and covers a large population of about 50,000 people, the NGOs said that the people of the area are in a dilemma and that the authorities should arrange for the placement of a Medical Officer without delay.

FKJGP and AYWO also stated that if a Medical Officer is not placed at the Tikrikilla PHC within three days, they would be compelled to start an agitational programme.
