Shillong: Alleging indifferent attitude of the State Government towards burning issues, the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Friday decided to withdraw support both from the MUA Government as well as the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

“The Government has allowed the issues to go from bad to worse,” HSPDP general secretary EK Raswai said in a statement here on Friday.

The decision to withdraw support was taken at the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meet of the HSPDP on Friday.

The party has also decided to convene an open general meeting on the Langpih issue at the earliest to decide its future course of action.

The party has also called for an early solution to the ongoing turmoil at Langpih.

“The CEC is perturbed at the slow pace of progress with regards to solution of the boundary dispute between Meghalaya and Assam,” Raswai said.

He also stated that the CEC is also concerned over the incursions, intimidations and forced occupation by the Assam government through various ways and means and the lackadaisical attitude of the State and the Union Governments in tackling the issue.

The CEC also expressed its appreciation to all those who have been agitating over the issue.

Meanwhile, the HSPDP also extended its support to Opposition candidate Purno Agitok Sangma in the upcoming Presidential election slated on July 19.

The party urged its MLAs to cast their votes in favour of Sangma and also appealed to all MPs and MLAs in the country to vote in favour of the former Lok Sabha Speaker.
