SHILLONG: The State Government has decided to provincialise a few colleges in the State by August 15.

This was announced by Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma here on Tuesday while participating in a programme organized to obverse the 177th death anniversary of U Tirot Sing Syiem.

“One of these colleges will be Tirot Sing Memorial College at Mairang,” he said.

According to Dr Sangma, since Mairang-Nongkhlaw area has a significant historic importance, the Hima Nongkhlaw has been requested to identify some land for setting up of the ‘U Tirot Sing Cultural and Knowledge Centre’. “This will not only create awareness amongst the people but will also inspire them to contribute towards the well being of the State,” he said.

Earlier, the Chief Minister laid a wreath at the monument of U Tirot Sing at Mairang.
