Debate

The 9th Annual Inter-School Debate competition will be held at Laban Bengalee Higher Secondary School on July 19 at 10.30 am. The topic for the Debate is ‘Chalk and talk is still the best teaching methodology’.

Sewing class

The Subhadra Mahila Samiti, the women wing of the Shillong Hindu Dharma Sabha, has started a sewing class from July 16. A sewing machine was donated by the Rotary Club, Orchid City, Shillong to the Samiti. The classes will be conducted every Wednesday and Saturday.

Singing

Sankardev College, as part of its Golden Jubilee celebration, is organising a Khasi traditional inter-college singing competition on Friday at the Deba Kumar Das Memorial Hall (college campus).

IGAR hqs

An elaborate function was held on Monday to mark the completion of the raising of HQ IGAR (East). All officers, JCOs and other ranks posted to the newly established headquarters took part in this formal affair. The proceedings began with the unfurling of the formation’s flag by its very first Inspector General, Major General Satish Kumar Dua. This is the third headquarters raised by the Director General Assam Rifles, the other two being, HQ IGAR (North) and HQ IGAR (South).

BJP appeal

The State Unit of the BJP has requested all the sixty members of the State Legislative Assembly to cast their votes in favour of Purno A Sangma, being the fittest man who deserves to be elected as President.
