Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Police have decided to release a sketch of the gunman who shot at and injured journalist Tongam Rina, now recuperating in hospital and stated to be stable.

The sketch has been prepared after questioning eyewitnesses who saw the gunman firing from close range at Rina, Associate Editor of Arunachal Times, as she was entering office on Sunday, Papum Pare SP Hibu Tamang said today.

No arrest has been made so far in the case.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki was being apprised of the progress of investigation, said Tamang, who is heading a special investigating team into the incident.

The condition of Rina, who was shot on the left side of her waist and operated on to remove the bullet, was now stable at the R K Mission Hospital, surgical specialists said.

Should she require further medical attention a helicopter will fly her to Guwahati, hospital sources said.

Tuki said all her medical expenses would be borne by the state government. Rina is also the president of Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists.

Her father Kento Rina thanked the people for their support.

“She has shown signs of recovery and that is really encouraging for all of us,” said Kento, who is the deputy director of school education in Lohit district. (PTI)
