TURA: Two unidentified militants suspected to be members of the ANVC breakaway faction opened fire inside a dry fish stall in Williamnagar market on Saturday night injuring one trader.

The two men, one of whom was armed with an AK 47 rifle, crept up from behind the market after coming from the direction of Sampalgre locality on the other side of the Simsang river.

The militants, with their faces covered with black cloth, entered the dry fish stalls sector of the market at around 7pm and on reaching the stall of Johinul Islam opened four rounds of fire from the AK rifle.

One bullet hit the fish seller on the right side of his chest. The injured trader has been taken to Tura civil hospital for treatment. He is stated to be out of danger.

The prime suspicion on the attack has been put on the ANVC breakaway group (ANVC-B) headed by one Rimpu N Marak who was earlier the organising secretary of the ANVC.

The ANVC-B has reportedly demanded tax from the traders which was not forthcoming and to send a message that they mean business the outfit committed the crime.
