Shillong: The procedure of implementation of the recently launched Women Economic Empowerment through Financial Inclusion scheme at Mawphlang has been severely criticized for converting the said scheme into an election launching pad by BDO Mawphlang.

The president of the ORD Kran Sing Lyngdoh has stated that recently, the said BDO had called the beneficiaries to his office and even asked the Nongspung MLA JA Lyngdoh to distribute the form while alleging that this is done in order to misled the rural populace that the scheme is being initiated by JA Lyngdoh.

“He (BDO) had even entrusted JA Lyngdoh to distribute the forms to villages, thus bypassing other public representative such as MDC of Mawphlang, MDC/MLA Sohiong, MLA of Mylliem in implementing this scheme”, Kran Lyngdoh alleged.

Terming the BDO as ‘Biased’, Lyngdoh has expressed a strong opposition on the attitude of the BDO alleging that instead of implementing the scheme in its true spirit to ensure development of the women folks in this area, he is trying to please some ‘big wig’ and earn himself a plus point.

Taking strong cognizance in this matter, the ORD has submitted a letter to the chief minister of Meghalaya Dr Mukul Sangma requesting him to look into this matter seriously and to instruct the BDO Mawphlang to cancel all those applicants distributed by the Nongspung MLA so as to avoid any misunderstanding by the public at large.

This scheme is being implemented to bring about economic empowerment of the women in the State.

Recently, chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma while launching this scheme at Mawsynram stated that in the first phase the Government is targeting to provide financial assistance to around 14,000 women potential entrepreneurs across the State.
