SHILLONG: With questions being raised over the high pricing of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) in the State, the Government would convene a meeting on Wednesday to review the project.

The meet would also discuss the possibility of reducing the price of the HSRP, which is around Rs 1950 in the State, and has been opposed by prominent NGOs here.

“We would be able to take a final call on whether the Government can reduce the price of the HSRP after tomorrow’s meeting,” Transport Minister AT Mondal told reporters here on Tuesday.

Mondal also admitted that as per the MOU signed between the Government and Shimnit Utsch Private Limited, there is no provision to provide satellite tracking facilities for the cars with the high security number plates. “But in the MOU it was clearly mentioned that the project should be tamper proof,” Mondal said.

Earlier, the HNYF had urged the Government to keep the implementation of the HSRP in abeyance till the rates are revised. “The price of the HSRP in the State is very high compared to other states,” HNYF’s chief organising secretary B Susngi had said.
