SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent H Pala has appealed to the student community not to have a negative mindset about the establishment all the time.
“I urge upon you not to be misled by a section of the NGOs and political opportunists who have a hidden agenda and always try to paint a negative picture of the Government,” Pala said while addressing the inaugural function of the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Political Science department of St Edmund’s College here on Saturday.
“The students should also not believe everything written in the media since media persons too have a vested interest in writing against the government,” he said.
He however suggested that the student community should try and analyze the development which is taking place.
“In fact, you should try to work closely together with the Government for positive things. This would help you to have a bright and better future,” Pala said.
The Union Minister of State also expressed concern on the communalization of politics in the country.
He attributed the ethnic clash in Bodoland to the tension and conflict in different sections of society saying that the root cause of the present problem is jealousy, mistrust and hatred.
Pala also blamed the political parties for fanning the flames of communalism among different sections of the society.
“Most political parties allot tickets to candidate on basis of caste, religion and his prospect of winning. This is a very dangerous trend,” Pala said while pointing out that communalism has given rise to new challenges like unemployment among the youths of the country and inequality among the various sections of the society.
“Communalization of politics has created social unrest in various parts of the country. The sad part is that politicians are taking advantage of this,” Pala said.
