Agartala: Additional force has been deployed in north-west Tripura’s Kailashahar town following a group clash between the members of ruling party’s student-wing SFI and it’s opposition NSUI on the street that left at least 50 people, including a policeman, injured.

The incident triggered tension in the area and markets of the town were found deserted since this morning.

The security forces deployed on Friday night intensified patrolling in crowded places including college and schools.

Police said SFI supporters pelted bricks and stones at a NSUI rally led by senior Congress leader and MLA Birjit Sinha and organised to demand legal action against SFI state committee member Ms Sweta Roy who allegedly got admission in M Com under Tripura (Central) University producing fake educational certificates.

According to a report, four of the injured were stated to be critical and shifted to Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) while others were undergoing treatment in Kailashahar district hospital.

Meanwhile, SFI alleged that NSUI supporters had thrown stones and bricks at their supports assembled near a shop here, seriously injuring two of them besides a policeman.

However, NSUI denied the allegation.

Tripura (Central) University authority has constituted an enquiry committee to probe the allegation.

Ms Roy, former SFI general secretary in MBB College, Agartala allegedly took admission in M Com producing fake pass certificates from CMJ University in Meghalaya. (UNI)
