Defence ministry approves 2nd Battalion of Arunachal Scouts

Itanagar: The Union Defence Ministry on Monday accorded the financial approval for raising the second Battalion of Arunachal Scouts.

Defence Minister A K Antony said the notification in this regard will be released soon by the ministry for starting the process of recruitment.

The Defence Minister informed this to a delegation led by Arunachal Pradesh CM Nabam Tuki at Delhi on Monday, according to official sources.

The other members of Arunachal delegation were MP Takam Sanjoy, Tourism minister Pema Khandu and parliamentary secretaries, Padi Richo, Jambey Tashi and Phurpa Tsering.

Among other issues, the Chief Minister discussed in detail the condition of roads under implementation by BRO and impressed upon the Defence Minister to expedite the said works in interest of the state and the country.

The CM discussed the Bhalukpung-Tawang Road, the deteriorating condition of which has made communication difficult and sought Antony’s intervention for improvement of the same.

They also discussed the BRO roads affected by the recent spate of heavy floods in the state.

The Defence Minister assured that he would take up the matter with BRO authorities for addressing the issues on top priority, sources said.

Mr Tuki also requested the Defence Minister to instruct NHPC for expediting the construction of the tunnel from Sessa to Jang.

Ms Selja also assured the CM that the Union Ministry of Culture would support the hosting of the year long celebrations of the 2600 years of the enlightenment of Lord Buddha in the state.

The event would be organised by the Buddhist Culture Preservation Society and the Department of Karmik and Adhyatmik (Chos-Rig) Affairs, government of Arunachal Pradesh, later this year.

The CM also requested Ms Selja to expedite the permission for bringing the Buddha’s Relic from the British Museum for public viewing on the occasion, sources added. (UNI)
