Itanagar: The construction work on ambitious Trans Arunachal Highway (TAH), a dream project of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, has stopped with the executing agency SRK Constructions private Ltd deciding to halt the ongoing works for an indefinite period.

The decision to halt construction works by the Hyderabad-based company was taken in the wake of repeated attacks on its employees in recent times.

In one attack, Sombhu Shankar Rai, a senior surveyor was allegedly attacked by his own driver, Ashi Riba at the company’s Pangin camp in East Siang district on Saturday evening, injuring him critically.

Rai was immediately rushed to Pangin community health center, from where he was shifted to Aalo district hospital on Sunday for better treatment and his condition is stated to be stable. The driver was arrested after the incident, the police said.

The company has decided to halt the construction work for an indefinite period until they were provided with security personnel at their camp and work sites, the company said in a press release. (PTI)
