TURA: A five-member GNLA group exchanged fire with SWAT commandos in north Garo Hills district on Monday morning before escaping.

Police from East Garo Hills conducted the raid in the village of Dalbingre under newly created North Garo Hills district and the exchange of fire lasted for several minutes.

Police said GNLA action commander Pillport Marak and four other armed cadres were inside a house when the encounter took place but forces had to refrain from firing due to presence of a woman and some children.

Police recovered a magazine of 7.52 pistol with four rounds of ammunition and GNLA documents and letter pads.

Pilliport is wanted for the killing of school teacher Dennybirth G Momin who was shot dead in Resubelpara outside his home on July 19.
