One shot dead in Jaintia Hills district

 KHLIEHRIAT: Unidentified miscreants, suspected to be coal labourers, shot dead a person and injured another person at Maibon under Umpleng area near Jaintia Cements on Tuesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Da-o-wadlad-shuh Chyrmang (30) of Latyrke village. The injured person, who is yet to be identified, has been shifted to Shillong for treatment.

According to sources, coal labourer shot the duo from a close range after tying them to a tree.

“As soon as the news spread in the area, a mob from Sutnga, Lamyrsiang, Latyrke and nearby villages rushed to the spot and set on fire as many as 15 to 20 labourer camps.

“We could not control the mob as we were only six of us”, said a policeman from Umpleng anti-docaity camp. The mob assaulted several labourers.

Arrival police team from Jowai, Ladrymbai and Khliehriat brought the situation under control.
