Tuki surveys flood-affected areas

Itanagar: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki along with a high level state disaster management team conducted an extensive aerial survey to assess the quantum of damages in the eastern part of the state caused by flash flood triggered by heavy downpour, official report said here on Saturday.

Huge loss of agricultural and horticultural fields besides losses of livestock and properties worth crores of rupees was reported.

The surface communication in Dibang Vally and Anjaw districts of Arunachal Pradesh has been totally disrupted due to heavy monsoon rain even as the situation in the flood-affected low laying areas of the state was yet to be brought to normalcy.

During Mr Tuki’s recent visit to Delhi, he had appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs to send a high-level Central team to assess the damages caused by the natural catastrophe.

The chief minister, who conducted the aerial survey on Friday, particularly highlighted the damages caused to road infrastructure, snapping connectivity to various townships and villages in districts including the state capital Itanagar.

He also informed the ministry of power disruption and water supplies and inundation of vast lands of agriculture and horticulture, causing huge losses to farmers.

Ongoing projects, like hydro-power and the Trans Arunachal Highway, have also been adversely affected by the abrupt monsoon rains and cloud bursts.

The chief minister, accompanied by MP Ninong Ering, parliamentary secretary Karikho Kri, chief secretary Yeshi Tsering, disaster management director Y W Ringu and chief engineer of Water Resource Department L Angu, surveyed flood affected areas of Dollungmukh, Likabali, Nari-Koyu.

During a brief interaction with the deputy commissioner of East Siang district at Pasighat, the DC informed the visiting team about the quantum of damages caused by the torrential rain, the report said.

While discussing the Hyderabad-based SRK Construction Pvt Ltd issue, the DC informed that the culprit involved in the attack of its employee had been arrested.

The chief minister called for stringent actions against persons disturbing the process of development in the state.

The SRK employee was assaulted by some miscreants at Pangin recently. (UNI)
