Tripura tops in NREGA implementation

 Agartala: The state government has provided 86 mandays to each job seeker under the national flagship programme-NREGA during 2011-12 FY while the national job generation figure stood only 42 mandays

While unfolding report cards in the field of Rural Development and Forest departments, RD Minister Jitendra Chowdhury on Tuesday said the government had given emphasis on overall socio-economic development in rural areas.

Highlighting the achievement in NREGA implementation, Chowdhury said, the mandays generation in Tripura was more than that of national average.

“This has been achieved because of proper planning, monitoring and execution of different works”, he said.

In the last year (2011-12), the state has generated 4.90 mandays while this year it is expected to be five crore, he said adding that the government would continue to lay stress on creation of fixed assets for sustainable development.

As many as 32432 water bodies were created during 2011-12 FY under the national flagship programme while 32,675 roads were created during the period. During the current FY (2012-13), 13,174 roads have been made so far while works of 1376 are in progress.

Flanked by Chief Scretary SK Panda, Chowdhury also highlighted success in the field of forest sector.

He said altogether 6294.28 hectares of land came under green cover while the RF area stands at 587.63 hectares.

To increase the green cover, an area of 75,423 hectares has been brought under the new plantation scheme.

During the 12th Five Year plan, efforts are on to bring 5000 jhumias into the joint forest management scheme for their betterment.
