SHILLONG: A thrilling comeback ensured Nangkiew Irat SC a 2-1 victory over Shillong Lajong FC in a SPL match at the J. N. Stadium on Thursday.

After trailing by a goal, Nangkiew rallied to score two goals to win a crucial lead and subsequently, the match as well. Shillong Lajong FC appeared to be in control of the game at least for the first half an hour or so and scored an early goal with Freeman Max pushing a corner past the goalkeeper in the 22nd minute.

However, Siama made a timely cross in the 38th minute that allowed Alfoster Sunn to head the ball in for the equaliser.

The first half scores remained at 1-1 while Lajong’s Joseph Lalnunpuia was issued a yellow for a technical foul.

In the 47th minute, Nangkiew missed an easy chance followed by another in a span of seconds after finding the keeper in a helpless position. But the misses did not bother Nangkiew as eight minutes later, Ezeani beat the keeper to find the net. Lajong were unable to score in the three minutes of injury time and in the end, it was Nangkiew that walked away with three crucial points.
