AGARTALA: Shocked by the tragic incident, the state government sent teams headed by DM Abhishek Chandra to Meghalaya’s East Jaintia hills district where at least 30 people were killed and 27 others injured.

The road mishap took place at Tamseng in Meghalaya when the bus fell into a gorge on Wednesday.

The government has opened three control rooms, one in the state capital and the two others in Unakoti and North Tripura districts which were providing information to the kin of the deceased or the injured.

Sources said the state government will also make arrangements for the kin to visit the scene of the accident.

Transport Minister Manik Dey expressed his sympathy to the relatives of the victims.

Talking to media at Civil Secretariat here on Thursday he said that the passenger vehicle was carrying more passengers than it’s capacity. However, he denied of giving any inputs on the reason behind the tragic road accident.

“It’s not time to speak on the reason leading to the traffic incident. What I can is that Meghalaya government has been doing good job for the survivors”, he said.

When asked about the compensation, Dey said, “The government has not yet decided on it but it will disown its responsibility”.

Reports said, 15 bodies have so far been identified and out of them nine bodies are on way to Agartala.

The local administration has been asked to help in bringing bodies if the situation arises.
