Mawlai has lost its image, says Paul Lyngdoh

SHILLONG: In an indication of UDP strategy to aggressively woo voters of Mawlai, the party working president Paul Lyngdoh on Saturday lambasted the sitting legislator Founder S Cajee saying “The image of the constituency has gone down because of his action.”
“Mawlai needs a legislator who can restore its lost image,” Lyngdoh said while addressing workers of his party’s Mawlai unit.
While stressing on the need to have quality politicos in the state Assembly, Lyngdoh said people need to elect those leaders who can speak in Assembly “but not those who go there (Assembly) to show their muscle power.”
He hoped that UDP would put up a better performance in the assembly election due in 2013.
Referring to the MUA coalition, he said, “Though we are part of the government we are like passengers in a bus with Congress in driver’s seat. We are looking to improve our performance to be in driver’s seat (after 2013 poll),” Lyngdoh said.
With UDP fielding Embhah Syiemlieh, who is also a member of KHADC, Mawlai is all set to witness a multi-corned contest this time.
Besides Syiemlieh and the sitting Congress legislator Cajee, two other candidates – Pyndapbor Saibon (KHNAM) and Teibor Pathaw (Mawlai Constituency People’s Reform Organisation) will also join the fray.
Another UDP working president Bindo M Lanong said his party would win minimum 20 seats including Mawlai in 2013 election.
Stating that a candidate should be at least 12th passed, he said in the present Assembly there are eight to nine MLAs, including three from Jaintia Hills, who have created a record of sort by not uttering a single word in the Assembly till date.
