Three fall victim to drunken driving in Tura

 Tura: Three youths including a sixteen-year-old girl lost their lives in a mishap caused by drunk and rash driving at near Nakham Bazaar night bus stand at around 8 pm on Saturday.

The accident occured when a speeding pick-up vehicle (ML08 4139) ran over a couple, Deepa Chetri (16) of Dobasipara and Rajip Hajong (18) of Dermile Tura on Saturday night killing them on the spot. The third victim, Pritish Roy (18) from Dobakol, who was traveling in the vehicle sustained critical injuries and breathed his last on Sunday morning.

The drunk driver of the vehicle, Tutu Rishi, and his helper Nitai Hajong have been taken into custody, police informed on Sunday.

Meanwhile, in another road mishap in Shillong, one Edwin Thabah (32) died on the spot after a car (ML 05F 2133) he was driving rammed into a tree near the Air Force boundary wall in Upper Shillong on Sunday evening. The co-passengers including a two-year-old girl were rushed to hospital for treatment.
