Mahila Cong to raise awareness on Govt flagship programmes

 TURA: The Mahila Congress in Meghalaya is planning to go to different parts of the State and create awareness among the people on the achievements and success stories of the State Government in view of the upcoming Assembly election.

This decision was taken during a high-level meeting of the Mahila Congress at the Tura Congress Bhawan on Monday which was attended by the All India Mahila Congress representative in charge of Meghalaya and other Northeastern states, Poonam Bhatia.

Speaking to a large number of women members of the party, Bhatia asked the Mahila members to vigorously go from house to house to highlight to the people the flagship programmes of the government and the party.

“Pamphlets will have to be distributed to every family to highlight the government’s achievements and the responsibility will be with each one of you,” said Bhatia in her address to the Mahila members.

Meghalaya Mahila Congress president Abeline War also asked upon the party members to be cautious against infighting and to put up a united front.

The Mahila Congress is also planning to set up block-level committees in each Assembly constituency ahead of the upcoming election.

The West Garo Hills district congress president Zenith M Sangma also addressed the Mahila members and spoke on the various programmes being taken up by the Meghalaya government for the benefit of the people. He said that Meghalaya is the first and only state to have a Chief Minister’s social assistance programme which gives financial assistance to the aged and the invalid without the requirement of a BPL card. He also informed that very soon a new programme would be launched in the State to enhance entrepreneurship of families.
