Boundary notification

The State Government has notified the boundaries of South West Khasi Hills district with headquarter at Mawkyrwat. The new district comprises of all the villages of Ranikor and Mawkyrwat C&RD including eighteen villages under Warsan Lyngdoh Gram Sevak circle of Nongstoin C&RD block. South West Garo Hills district with its headquarter at Ampati comprises of all the villages of Betasing and Zik Zak C&RD Block including thirty-three villages under Mukdangra and Garobadha Gram Sevak circle of Selsella C&RD block.

Pensioners’ meet

The general meeting of State Bank of India pensioners will be held on August 17 at Zonal Office, Dhankheti at 3:30pm.

Debate

Gladiola Nongrum of Lady Keane College was adjudged best debater at the Inter-College Debate Competition organised by Seng Khasi College on Monday while Rumita Sarkar of St. Mary’s College and Ashmita Roy of St. Anthony’s College won the second and third prizes respectively. The topic of the debate was ‘Distortion of Democracy, Corruption, and Scams Galore: A functional democracy and good governance need a campaign for clean politics’. The best debating team prize was awarded to Seng Khasi College while St. Mary’s College bagged the second prize.

General meet

The general meet of the Meghalaya Limestone Truck Owners’ and Suppliers’ Association will be held on August 17 at 7 mer Madan Umdiengpun at Upper Shillong at 11am.

Office bearers

The Nongrah Sports, Social and Cultural Club has elected new office bearers for a term of two years from August 2012-December 2014 with Anthony Pyngrope as president, Shiningstar Marboh as general secretary and Kaisar Wankhar as vice president besides others.

Clarification

With regards to the news item Students, youth pledge for an AIDS-free State (ST, August 12), the name of the Project Director of the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society should be read as Dr S Laloo and not Dr A Jyrwa.
