TURA: The Civil Sub Division Demand Committee (CSDC), Rongjeng, East Garo Hills in a communiqué to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has demanded the upgradation of Dambo-Rongjeng C&RD Block into a full-fledged Civil Sub-Division in order to bring the administration closer to the people of the region. This was informed by the president of the CSDC.

The Committee in their communiqué urged the Chief Minister to consider the upgradation of Rongjeng Block into a Civil Sub-Division during the 12th Five Year Plan stating that there was an urgent need to bring the administration closer to the people for better governance.

Rongjeng is one of the oldest development blocks in Garo Hills established by the erstwhile Assam Government in 1962 and as such needed the upgradation into a Civil Sub-Division, the Committee noted.

The communiqué stated that even though Rongjeng was connected to Assam and other major district headquarters of the state, the roads were left neglected, affecting the people of the region.

The Committee also lamented the fact that even though Rongjeng block had been in existence for more than four decades there was much to be desired in terms of development.
