Shillong: The State Cabinet has decided to relax the educational qualification for recruitment of armed constables for the armed branch of the State Police.
“We have decided to relax the qualification for armed constable from matriculation to Class IX pass,” Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma informed after the Cabinet meeting here on Thursday.
Dr Sangma also informed that the Cabinet has decided to reserve 25 per cent of the vacancies for women candidates interested in joining the armed branch.
The Chief Minister maintained that the recruitment process would be carried out in a transparent manner so as to ensure integrity in recruitment to the State Police.
Informed that the Government has come up with a new recruitment policy, Dr Sangma said, “The new recruitment policy is based on automated testing method to bring about transparency and accountability in the recruitment process.”
Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh informed that the State Government will revise the policy guidelines and will constitute a State Recruitment Board under the chairmanship of the Additional Director General of Police. The members of the Board will comprise of IGP (Law and Order), two SPs, two Commandants, two Senior Medical Officers and a non-official member to be appointed by the Government.
Marriage registration bill approved
The State Cabinet has approved the proposed Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Bill, 2011.
“The Cabinet has formulated the proposed marriage bill following a number of public hearings,” Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma informed on Thursday, while adding that the proposed bill would be tabled in the forthcoming Autumn Session of the State Assembly.
Cyber Cafe Rules framed
The Cabinet on Thursday approved the Meghalaya Cyber Cafe Rules as per the guidelines of the IT Act, 2000 to prevent misuse of the internet by miscreants and people with vested interests.
As per the Rule, cyber cafe owners will have to install cameras and establish the identity of the cyber café users through valid documents.
Besides, the Cabinet also approved the Meghalaya Judicial Service Rules 2012 (Amendment) on percentage of promotion of judicial officers.
The Cabinet also approved the extension of service of the incumbent Director of Sainik Welfare Board, Brigadier William Sturgeon, by another three years.
