SHILLONG: Many citizens led by Mait Shaphrang Movement (MSM) convener Michael Syiem has opposed the idea of the State Government to dismantle the Crinoline Swimming Pool (CSP) to pave way for the construction of a new 50 metre swimming pool at the same site.

In a letter submitted to the Deputy Chief Minister and in charge of sports BM Lanong, the group of citizens said that the Government should construct the state of the art 50 meters swimming poll either in Mawdiangdiang or some other warmer place instead of dismantling the CSP. According to citizens, the CSP was constructed by the British in 1940s primarily for the British soldiers who were wounded during World War II and should be considered as a heritage site.
