SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong FC made a humble exit from the Shillong Premier League after losing to MLP FT 1-3 on Friday at the JN Stadium. A rather uneventful first half subsequently made way for a one-sided result that swung in favour of the Meghalaya Police team. Adding to their woes, Lajong goalkeeper Aibormiky was sent off five minutes before time after being given two yellows. Lalrosanga took over goalkeeping duties before failing to hold on to a ball powered by Plassing Myrthong in the 89th minute following a corner.
Earlier, in the 85th minute, forward Batkupar Lamare scored MLP’s second goal after colliding with keeper Aibormiky. It was then that Aibormiky was sent off following a double yellow after questioning the referee with regard to the goal scored by MLP. Earlier, MLP drew first blood when Milton fired one past the goalkeeper after catching him off guard fifty-five minutes into the game.
The win puts MLP in third, although they will hope that Malki and Langsning either draw or lose their respective games on Saturday to stay in contention for the semifinals.
