Itanagar: BJP today demanded that the Centre provide “fool-proof” security to people from north eastern region residing in other parts of the country in wake of their mass exodus from several states.

The Centre must take immediate corrective steps and stop discrimination with the people of the region, BJP National General Secretary Tapir Gao told a press conference here.

“BJP is taking the issue of mass exodus seriously. If New Delhi fails to take immediate action to tackle the situation, the people of the region will stand united and give befitting reply to divisive forces,” he said.

Gao alleged that eight people from the NE were assaulted in Pune, while two Manipuri girls met the same fate in Bangalore.

He also alleged that illegal immigrants were a major threat not only to the northeast but to the entire country and blamed Congress for protecting them for its vote bank politics and thereby committing a crime against the people of the NE.

The party’s north east organisational in-charge P Chandrasekhar Rao said the exodus was a repercussion of the recent communal violence in Assam.

The exodus from Hyderabad and other parts of the country was engineered by fundamentalists to accommodate illegal migrants in Assam and other northeastern states, he alleged. BJP will organise ‘Assam Bachao-NE Bachao-Desh Bachao’ rallies in different parts of the country from August 23 to August 28 against illegal migrants, Gao added. (PTI)
