Kohima: The government has decided to set up a control room at the Nagaland Police Headquarters immediately to monitor the situation prevailing in some southern Indian cities in view of the exodus of North Easterners from there.

In a communique issued last night Chief Secretary Lalthara said that the decision was taken during a meeting held at the Residential Office of Chief Minister Neiphu Rio to take stock of the situation which triggered the exodus of students and workers of the North East from Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad and other cities of South India.

The police control room will coordinate all activities connected with the setting up of Facilitation and Guidance Centres at Dimapur Railway Station, Dimapur Airport and Guwahati Railway Station, etc, in coordination with Deputy Commissioner Dimapur and Joint Residence Commissioner Guwahati.

These centres will keep a proper record of students and others who are returning to Nagaland on account of the present situation and also facilitate their temporary accommodation, further journey to destination, and their return to their respective places as soon as the situation calms down.

The communique said it was also decided that the Higher and Technical Education Department will set up another control room-cum-facilitation centre at the Directorate to keep track of students who are affected by the prevailing situation.

They will keep proper records of the students who have come back and also help in planning their return to their respective places as early as possible by liaising with the state governments concerned and heads of the education institutions.

The Resident Commissioner of New Delhi and Joint Resident Commissioner of Guwahati will also set up Facilitation Centres at Delhi and Guwahati and report the movement of students and others to the state government on a daily basis.

The Naga Students Unions and the Naga Christian Fellowships in the cities affected by this situation may be contacted by the Control room and Facilitation Centres and their assistance sought in restoring normalcy.

In Kohima, the Control room number is 0370-100 and 0370-2244279 and in Dimapur Control Room number is 03862-2288400. The Control Rooms will provide required details and guidance to people returning from the cities owing to the prevailing situation.

The government also decided to send goodwill teams to Pune and Bangalore with the main objective of liaising with the state governments, education institutions, the students unions and Naga Christian Fellowships.

Official sources said the goodwill team to Bangalore will be led by Nagaland Minister for Power Doshehe Y Sema and include Renchamo Kikon, Inspector General of Police (Training and Border), while that to Pune will be led by Agriculture Minister Dr. Chumben Murry.

The members are Parliamentary Secretary Yitachu and Wapang Jamir, Deputy Inspector General of Police(CID), sources said. (UNI)
