Shillong: Meghalaya is sending official team this week to find out the actual reason behind the panic and mass exodus of young students and professionals from southern states and Maharashtra.

The team, visiting both southern and western parts of the country, would also give assurance to those from the North-East that the state government is doing all it could to for ensuring their safety, an official said here. A helpline number has also been provided by the state for NE students and professionals to provide necessary assistance during crisis. “We had got calls from students and young professionals in Bangalore and Pune,” Inspector General of Police G H P Raju told PTI. “Some of the calls were received from students hailing from Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur as well,” Raju said.
