TURA: The first Deputy Commissioner of the newly-formed North Garo Hills district, W Khyllep, has appealed to the people of the region to extend full support and cooperation to maintain peace and harmony in view of the violence that has taken place in Assam and news of its retaliation.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the new district has been created with the intention to make it a vibrant and developed district for which peace and harmony is essential for rapid development.

“Maintaining communal harmony and guarding each other, irrespective of caste, creed or religion is the need of the hour”, the DC said, while appealing to the people of North Garo Hills to be more vigilant and maintain peace at all cost.

He also said that in the past there had been ethnic clashes in the area but now the people should not resort to any kind of violence and live in peace and not be divided along the lines of religion, caste or creed.
