Aizawl: After having officials arrested for their alleged involvement in a multi-crore scam, anti-corruption watchdog Prism has turned to the government doctors, who had issued ‘fake’ medical certificates to the accused.

Prism on Tuesday filed an FIR in Aizawl police station to probe into the authenticity of the medical certificates and take appropriate action against the doctors under section 193 and 197 of IPC.

State PWD engineer-in-chief Lianchungnunga, assistant-cum-accountant B Lalthanpuia and retired PWD engineer-in-chief C Liansanga were arrested on August 17, in alleged misappropriation of crores of rupees in the Serkhan (Mizoram)-Bagha (Assam) road project.

Despite they needing “bed rest” according to their medical certificates, the two PWD officials attended office after their bail.

Dr Zothantluanga, Dr H Lalrinawma and Dr K Lalbiakzuala, medicine specialist, medical officer and state programme officer for cancer control programme respectively at Aizawl Civil Hospital, issued medical certificates to the three accused.

Meanwhile, the Anti Corruption Bureau on Monday raided the residences of the accused on Monday afternoon and seized several documents, including bank pass books. (UNI)
