SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday launched the Shillong Special Transport Services (SSTS) specially for students and office-goers.

In a simple yet impressive function, Lyngdoh flagged off first of the 20 busses procured for the purpose from Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.

The 24 seater TATA Marcopolo buses are procured under the 13th Finance Commission award. The cost of each bus is Rs 11,38,892 .

Speaking on the occasion, Lyngoh hoped that the buses would benefit the students and officer-goers tremendously since there is still a paucity of public transport in city.

While the buses will cater to school students and office goers in morning, the buses will then operate as public transport for the rest of the day.

These buses are being operated by the Shillong Municipal Board with the assistance of Synroplang Self Help Group on PPP mode and on 50:50 revenue sharing model.

The Shillong Municipal Board has requested passengers to insist on tickets while traveling.
