Agartala: The Election Commission has finally kicked off process for conducting Assembly election in Tripura.
Following directive from the Election Commission, the State Election department has already announced schedule for special revision of electoral rolls for 60 Assembly segments.
As per the schedule, the draft electoral rolls will be published on October 1, 2012 while submission of claims and objections will be allowed till October 31. Claims and objections will be settled on December 1 next while the final electoral rolls will be published on January 5, 2013 paving the way for Assembly elections slated early next year.
Sources in the state election department claimed the Assembly election will be held on the basis of the revised voters’ list.
However, it will the Election Commission that will take the final decision, he added.
Soon after the notification, all the SDMs and BDOs were asked to ensure proper arrangement for the revision of electoral rolls.
With the election doing the round, political parties are all set to step up their organizational activities. The ruling CPM has already organised party programme where party’s general secretary Prakash Karat and CPM politburo member Sitaram Yechury delivered speeches.
The Congress, it seems no laggard when it comes to show organization strength. The party plans to organise Mahakaran Abhijan on September 12 next to show its base before the mission 2013.
