SHILLONG: Visitors to Khyndailad will have no respite from the muddy pool and pebbles, which dot the entire length of the thoroughfare, for atleast one more year as the much-hyped Khyndailad beautification project will only be completed in July 2013, official sources have informed.
This is the second extension to the deadline for completion of the project.
The project, launched last year with much fanfare by Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, was to have been completed before the onset of the Monsoon season, but as delays started cropping up, the Government extended the deadline to October 2012, which has now been further extended to July 2013.
The unsteady progress of the project coupled with the rains has only worsened the situation in Khyndailad much to the dismay of the pedestrians.
Sources said that the work is not making enough progress since the stretch is packed with pedestrians throughout the day and the construction work could be carried out only at night time.
