Shillong: What appeared to be a kidnapping and a rape case filed against one Sibhu Paul (17) for kidnapping and raping a 13 year old girl from Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills last week, police has however, confirmed the accuses don’t hold true and it is a mere eloping case .

East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police MK Dkhar said that the question of rape does not arise.

As per the Meghalaya Police daily crime reports, one Chandra Chettri lodged a complaint at Khliehriat PS that one Sibhu Paul kidnapped one minor girl (13) from Khliehriat (EJH). During investigation, police traced her from Tripura and on conducting medical examination at CHC Khliehriat; the MO opined that she had been raped.

Commenting on this, Dkhar said the report was written prior to the confession of the girl who admitted in front of the police that she willingly went with the Chettri to Tripura after their relationship was opposed by their family members.

“After a case was registered on September 6, we immediately took up a case and police later traced out that the duo was in Tripura and by the morning of September 7, they were brought back to Khliehriat and it was only later that we came to know that it is nothing but an eloping case”, the East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police said.

Dkhar also added that the family members of both the boy and the girl had come forward and compromised with the court regarding this matter.

In another case, which appears to be a molestation incident, police arrested one Romesh Rai for molesting three women at Mawdiangdiang.
