SHILLONG: The golden jubilee celebrations of Savio Juniorate will be held on October 11 at Mawlai.
The past pupils told a news conference on Thursday that the Institution in collaboration with its past pupils have already begun the preparations of golden jubilee celebrations in October last year and it will culminate on October 11.
The past pupils of Savio Juniorate are scattered in parts of Northeast and elsewhere in the country.
The past pupils from Shillong informed on Thursday that some of the activities undertaken during last one year include leadership training and job oriented training programmes at Nongpoh.
Inter-school basket ball tournament for Girls in Jaintia Hills, parents-teachers inter-active programmes on social issues for West Khasi Hills at Nongstoin, and construction of a golden jubilee building block at the site of Juniorate in Mawlai were other initiatives.
During the last 50 years, the institute has trained nearly 3000 students and 500 priests and brothers. Most of these priests and religious brothers are now serving in various states of the Northeast.
Some of those who have passed out from the institute have occupied various positions like Provincials, Bishops, Rectors, Principals., Vice-Provincials, parish priests and missionaries serving not only in the country but also abroad.
The Salesians, priests and religious brothers work for the education of the youth, the poor and the abandoned street children in mission stations and they have also established technical schools, human resource training centres, youth centres, schools, colleges and universities in the Northest and in many parts of the country.
The students who could not become priests and religious went back home and benefited much from the training they got from this institute. Many have become doctors, engineers, professors, advocates, bankers, businessmen, journalists, politicians, social workers among others.
