Shillong: A one-day farmers’ training on ‘Organic Production Technologies of Ginger & Turmeric’ was organised by the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Union Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the State Directorate of Horticulture and International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA), Bangalore at Ginger Development Station, Umsning with the objective to create awareness about the latest technologies on organic production technologies.
Dr CO Rangad, Former Director of Horticulture, attended the function as the chief guest along with KM Brahma, State Director of Horticulture.
As a part of the training programme, the participants were taken for a field visit as well as practical demonstration at Ginger Development Station, Umsning which has been set to act as a demonstration centre for dissemination of organic farming system to the organic growers where practical hands on demonstration on planting techniques & preparation of on farm organic inputs & other cultural practices were conducted. The participants were given also reading materials for their future reference in the field condition.
Altogether 43 farmers from all the North Eastern states attended the training programme.
