SHILLONG: The State Information Department is expected to get a major boost when the proposed IT Park comes up at the proposed New Shillong Township.

Highly placed sources said that the State Government has already floated the Expression of Interest for the proposed IT Park which would provide a new dimension to the State IT sector.

It is learnt that the proposed IT Park would have call centres and workshops for all the IT related equipments and other infrastructure to make Shillong an IT destination.

The last date for submission of EOI is September 28, the sources said, adding that eighty acres of land has been allotted to the IT department for construction of the IT Park.

As per the EOI, firms have been invited to provide consultancy services for the

Meghalaya IT Park Project, being implemented by the Department of Information Technology.

“With this project the government wishes to develop the area and create conducive environment for attracting IT companies from outside the State to set up their establishments in the IT Park,” the sources added.

The sources also said that that the IT Park would do wonders as the State has tremendous potentialities to invite major players to set up their IT business in the State which would in turn provide tremendous employment opportunities to the youth. The department plans to run the proposed Park on a PPP model and is scheduled to constitute a Proposal Evaluation Committee to evaluate the responses of the bidders, the sources informed.

The sources also admitted that the State is yet to achieve anything significant in terms of IT infrastructure as connectivity is proving to be a cause of concern for IT related activities.
