SHILLONG: Security has been beefed up across State for Thursday’s strike called by NDA and other opposition parties against the Central government’s decision to hike diesel price and allow FDI in multi-brand retail.

While the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has decided to support the bandh, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on the other hand has refrained from supporting it.

Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Wednesday, KSU president Daniel Khyriem said, “Although the bandh is for a good cause but we are not supporting it as it has been called by a political party.

“We don’t want to involve ourselves with any political party,” he added.

Extending support to the bandh, FKJGP working president Joe Marwein, on the other hand, said, “We are supporting the bandh as it is in protest of price rise”.

The CSWO has also extended support to bandh call.

“We will request all the shop owners to keep their shutters down from 6 am to 6pm and all commercial vehicles to be off the road,” a statement issued by the State BJP said.
