Guwahati: Two rifles each of AK-47 and AK 56 series were recovered, along with magazine and bullets, during separate operations by security agencies in Assam’s Udalguri and Chirang districts on Wednesday night.
Two rifles, three magazine and 23 rounds of bullets were recovered from a car during a checking in Chirang last night.
The checking was being conducted based on information that arms were being ferried in a four-wheeler to the district.
The driver of the vehicle, one Jayanta Baruah, was arrested, who claimed to be have been paid to drive the car from Nagaon to Chirang.
In another operation in Sonajuli, under Dimakuchi police station of Udalguri district, two AK-56 rifles, two magazine and 20 live cartridges were recovered from a bag by a police patrol party.
The patrol party had asked two motorcycle-borne youths to stop for checking but the youths fled the scene after throwing away the bag into a nearby paddy field. (UNI)
